Between June 27 and 29, the School of Applied Arts of the Castelo Branco Polytechnic Institute is organizing another edition of EIMAD – International Research Meeting in Music, Arts and Design.

This will be the 9th edition of EIMAD and, as in previous years, it will be a privileged space for scientific debate and dissemination of research in the areas of design (graphic design, interior and furniture design and clothing and textile design), music (musicology and music teaching), the arts and their respective areas of intersection or transdisciplinarity.

There are two pillars guiding this year’s edition of EIMAD. The first is the 2030 Agenda (Sustainable Development Goals) promoted by the United Nations, whose priorities are sustainable, regenerative and inclusive growth on a global scale by the year 2030. The second pillar is the New European Bauhaus, a creative and interdisciplinary initiative promoted by the European Commission. This movement seeks to provide a meeting place to conceive futures by bringing together designers, architects, artists, scientists, engineers, digital experts and students to create bridges between the world of science and technology and the world of art and culture, while calling for sustainability, inclusion and aesthetics to bring the European Green Deal closer to the people.

Focusing on these two pillars, the work carried out at EIMAD will bring together teachers, researchers and professionals, both national and international, linked to the thematic areas of the meeting, making it possible to share knowledge, processes and the results of the latest research. The work will take place over three days between parallel thematic sessions where authors of different nationalities will present their scientific papers. With EIMAD already having a well-established international dimension (the 8th edition had 75 papers, 162 participants and researchers from 12 nationalities), this year the plenary sessions will be led by international speakers Jorge Frascara, Ellen Lupton, David Bihanic, Joanie Lemercier and Peter Benz, who will be joined by Portugal’s Helena Caspurro. The result of this 9th EIMAD meeting will be an international reference book, “Advances in Design, Music and Arts III”, guaranteed to be indexed in Scopus and published by the prestigious Springer imprint, a Scopus reference publisher and partner in the various publications resulting from previous editions of EIMAD.

EIMAD will be a particularly relevant opportunity to reflect on how it is possible to think of Design, Music and the Arts as a medium/long-term investment to face the global challenges ahead, to understand the way to respond to society’s needs and how these areas can be used as a cultural and sustainability catalyst to transform communities and promote sustainable lifestyles.
